Hello DeviantArt! I've recently (half a month ago) finished my vacation, and am back in good 'ol PEI! I've missed this place, what with the 24/hr internet access at my house ;D. But I had tons of fun in Halifax, don't get me wrong. I went swimming, and bowling, and watched movies! I played, and wrapped, Fallout 3, and I bought Halo 3 ODST! (which my Xbox decided it would scratch DX)
But on another note, (RANT WARNING) I want to talk about the topic of truth. This has been bugging me for awhile, and I want somewhere that people will take me seriously about it.
"The true or actual state of a matter." That is the scientific definition of truth. But in reality, the real definition would be: "What we, as a nation, PERCEIVE to be the true or actual state of a matter." And why is that? Well if you think about it, over 2000 years ago, people believed that the world was flat, and that sea monsters existed. That was the truth, as they perceived it. But now, we know the Earth is round, and that the only "sea monsters" are jus carnivorous fish.
But what about the things that aren't so crystal clear? Last year, in science class, I was taught that the truth of things was that there are 113 elements in the world, and that every element is made up of things called "atoms." We also learned that nobody can see the atoms, so there's no way that we can prove they exist. But if they might not even exist, then why do so many scientists form their research using this theory? I know why. Because to them, the theory that everything is mae of atoms is the truth. They've convinced themselves that there is no other option, and therefore, the research is flawed. But maybe I'm wrong. The atom theory, and the table of elements may be the real facts.
But what if I'm right? What if in 10, 20, or even 100 years from now, someone makes a more convincing theory then the one we use today? That would render all the research, the periodic table, and even what I learned in school this year, completely useless! But we just go on believing, and why? Because it's what we see to be the truth.
Thank you for listening, to those who did. And to those who just skipped my rant: I hold nothing against you.
Sincerest thanks:
